Clare Starbuck - Clinical Psychologist
Who is Clare Starbuck
Clare is a Clinical Psychologist who enjoys working with clients of all ages, from infancy through to older adulthood. Clare works from the belief that we are all the experts on our own experiences. In keeping with this, Clare takes a client-led and non-directive approach to therapy, and aims to create a space where people feel safe and respected, and feel supported to explore their experiences at their own pace.
Clare has particular expertise in Peadiatric Psychology, a specialised field that bridges physical health and emotional wellbeing in the peadiatric population. Consistent with this focus, Clare also works at the Perth Children’s Hospital where she supports children, adolescents, and their families as they navigate health related challenges.
Clare offers compassionate, evidence-based care and works relationally, drawing on attachment and developmental theory. Where appropriate, Clare also uses Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT), and Family Systems Therapy to support the individual goals of each client. She offers short and longer-term therapy to those wanting to better understand themselves, and work through the difficulties that have arisen in their lives. She believes that life shapes us in many ways, and therapy helps us understand how.
Clare is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia (under AHPRA). She holds a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) and Honours in Psychology from the University of Western Australia, and a Master of Applied Psychology (Clinical) from Murdoch University. Clare completed her supervised clinical training at Perth Children’s Hospital, The Centre for Clinical Interventions (CCI), Parkerville Child and Youth Care, and Murdoch University Psychology Clinic.
